Necessity. For over thirty years I tried to write this as a chronological autobiography or memoir and was never satisfied with the outcome. That is until I imagined, Mike and Sofia inheriting this unpublished manuscript and asked them to finish it. Through their objective, imagined eyes I was able to understand my experiences more fully. Thereafter it was easy to reformulate the manuscript as a novel while retaining its core; the true-life experiences of the author. Necessity is the mother of invention.
Yes. It is the personal memoir of the author embedded within the novel about editing and publishing the book. The actual, true experiences of the author are Jack’s manuscript which is either quoted by the narrators, Mike and Sofia Molina, or is labeled “Jack’s Story” in chapter headings.
The historical details were well researched but a couple of minor errors have been reported. On page 97, Albert Sidney Johnston should read Joseph E. Johnston. On page 101, Allen Iverson should be Alfred Iverson.
Yes, the book is dedicated to the Virginia Division of the Army of Northern Virginia and the United States Military Academy Class of 1846. The forget-me-not flowers symbolize that I have remembered them, hopefully, well.
My wife with her selfless nature, helped as original reader, critic and fan despite not being a part of my Civil War past and not wanting to be the spouse of my historical self.
Personal guides or friends and relatives in the non-physical that kept sending new ideas that turned into new chapters or new insights during the night. Particularly, as I was finishing the book, I would wake up with a whole new chapter in my mind. Those thoughts were not mine alone. I am very thankful for their help.
No. It does facilitate accessing past lives but one can also access past lives through meditation and being in a higher state of consciousness. I was well aware of a past life in the Civil War long before using past life regression. Past life regression pinpointed the identity but was not necessary for me to know that I had participated in the Civil War.
